Frequently asked questions
Sometimes it's a little tricky trying to find great priced tickets! That's ok, we're here to help. Check out some of our answers to our frequently asked questions.
Why use TrainFinder?
TrainFinder was created for those who may not have a travel destination in mind but know when they want to travel and how much they are willing to spend. It's a great way to see visually on a map what towns and cities have cheap train fares for the particular travel dates.
Do you have an app?
We have an app in Google Play and the Apple App Store. You can also add TrainFinder to your phone’s home screen and use it like you would with other apps. To add it to your home screen in Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner then tap 'Add to Home screen'. To add it to your home screen in Safari, tap the share icon (the square icon with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of your screen then tap 'Add to Home Screen'.
How much do you charge?
TrainFinder is a free service! Just pay for the fare of your train. Please note, booking companies may add a booking fee.
Where in the UK can I travel using TrainFinder?
You can find great train fare deals to most stations in the UK mainland.
How do I purchase the train tickets?
When you have selected the destination and travel times you want, you will then be redirected to a third party booking site where you need to enter the details of your journey.
I have a Railcard, can I use it?
Yes you can! Having a rail card can save you even more money off the advertised price on TrainFinder. Just remember to add the type of Railcard you have when you have selected the train tickets and are redirected to the booking site. Don't forget that you will need to have the Railcard on you when you travel.
Is pricing on a per person basis? What if I have a traveling buddy, or children?
The prices are shown as a per person fare but you can add the number of children and/or adults when you are redirected to the booking site after selecting the destination and times.
Where do you get your pricing from?
Our pricing comes directly from National Rail, the group of train operating companies of England, Scotland, and Wales
What is the difference between a fixed time, off peak, and anytime tickets?
Fixed time tickets, officially known as Advance Tickets, are the cheapest tickets you’ll be able to get for a route. They are for a specific train at a specific time, with no flexibility. Then there are off peak, super off peak, anytime, and various other ticket types. These types of tickets offer some flexibility, depending on the type of ticket you purchase. Off Peak tickets can be used on different trains during less busier times like outside commuting time and the weekend. When and how you can use these tickets depending on each train company, so best check with them. Anytime tickets are just that, you can use them anytime.
I bought a ticket through TrainFinder, how can I get help with it?
TrainFinder doesn’t sell tickets, we instead help you find tickets through a third party. If you bought through our chosen third party, you can get some details here.. Otherwise find the receipt in your emails and contact them.
I am wanting to go to a specific location - for example London Liverpool Street, but I can’t see that station on the map?
TrainFinder is great for trips where you don’t know your specific destination. If you do, we recommend going directly to a train booking website, like this one here..
We hope you find this app as helpful as it to us and we can't wait to hear your stories of your adventures in the wonderful backyard of the UK. If you do have any further questions, feel free to contact us.
